It took several years for the bridge to be rebuilt before it reopened last November. Now, the Montebello Road Bridge will be recognized and featured in the 2017 calendar issued by the New York Conference on Bridges, County Executive Ed Day announced.
The county undertook the reconstruction of the 53-foot bridge, which spans the Mahwah River, at a cost of $3.7 million.
“We’re proud to show the rest of the state what the residents of Montebello already know--this is a beautiful, structurally sound bridge,” Day said.
Reconstruction of the bridge involved incorporating the stonework from the old bridge that was salvaged after the storm, according to Rockland County Bridge Engineer Joseph Pyzowski.
Pyzowski served as the project manager for the reconstruction and also managed TranSystems Corp., a consultant company that provided design services. The actual construction was completed by Colonnelli Brothers, Inc. It was also Pyzowski who submitted the picture to the NYCB.
Other county bridges featured in the past NYCB calendars include the Bridge Street Bridge in Piermont for the month of April in the 2016.
In addition to being featured in the calendar, an award will be presented for the bridge at the Statewide Conference of Local Bridges on Oct. 27, held at Cornell University in Ithaca.
